Farm, Middlesmoor, Nidderdale
"This was one of a series of
sketches I did in Nidderdale. I find the Dales truly inspiring. I am
fascinated by the dry-stone walls, the hundreds of barns dotted about
in the fields and by the wonderful field patterns up the sides of the
valleys".
The work will undergo many
changes from the original sketch because I am trying to say something
different in my painting, not just produce a reproduction...
Highland Cattle, Catterline
"I drew these Highland Cattle
during our month's residency at Joan Eardley's Studio at Catterline. I
rarely sketch animals but these two interested me as they had a certain
presence. I liked their strong shape and their inquisitive nature."
Afon Eisingrug
"
A sketch of two barns in the Talsarnu region of Gwynned. At the time I
was working on a course with Moira Huntly PPS RWA. Moira and her
painting partner, the late John Blockley RI RWA, have been a constant
source of inspiration and encouragement to me over many years."
Fishermen's Sheds, Brancaster
Staithe
"The Staithe is a working
harbour quite close to where we live. There are always fishing boats
there and the place has a special feel to it. I am particularly
attracted to these rusty sheds and old brick buildings. Some of these
date back to the early 1800s."
Gallow Hill Farm
"I always find farms
interesting and draw them as often as I can. This one is a favourite of
mine as it sits up on higher ground and the farmland sweeps down to the
road."
Lyng Farm
"Another of my favourite farms.
This one nestles in a hollow surrounded by hedgerows, copses and fields
growing barley, wheat and sugar beet. There are always interesting
patterns and textures in the landscape when different crops are grown
in close proximity."
